Only Gaffe is that the McCain Campaign Uses Carly Fiorina as an Adviser
"Palin Doesn't have the Experience to Run a Major Company", says Carly Fiorina, who was dismissed as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett-Packard when that major company she headed, headed south.
Upon news of Fiorina's dismissal, Hewlett-Packard's stock jumped 7%.
"Do you think [Sarah Palin] has the experience to run a major company, like Hewlett Packard?" asked the host.
"No, I don't," responded Fiorina. "But you know what? That's not what she's running for."
Fiorina is an economic adviser for the McCain campaign. Some in the campaign called her remarks "very Biden-like".
Appearing on the McGraw Milhaven Show on St. Louis KTRS Radio, Fiorina went on to stress that the Alaska Republican had more executive experience than anyone else on the ticket, specifically Barack Obama.
"I find it quite stunning actually that the Barack Obama campaign is questioning Sarah Palin's experience," she said. "She has more executive experience than he does and she is the vice presidential nominee and he is the presidential nominee."
When Carly Fiorina ran Hewlett-Packard, some said that she ran it into the ground: Ms. Fiorina was relieved of her duties after HP's stock declined and she was accused of various nefarious activities.
The only gaffe is that the McCain campaign even lets Fiorina within spitting distance of the campaign.
Is Carly Fiorina's comment a "gaffe"--surely one of the most over-used words?
How can it be a "blatant mistake or misjudgment" to say what Fiorina said? It's the truth. It's also the truth that none of the candidates has that type of private sector experience that Fiorina was referring to in her comment.
Only if the sentence is isolated and taken out of context could it prove to be troublesome--to those using the quote as something other than the speaker meant it to be.
Such as when the Huffington Post ran "Palin Doesn't have the Experience to Run a Major Company" as their headline for the story.
